Kawartha Community Church meets in one location in Peterborough, but choosing a Gathering to attend when you visit can be confusing (we have three adult and one kid’s Gathering). We highly value choice at KCC, and believe the diversity of our Gatherings is our strength. We recommend you try each Gathering at least twice to get a feel for the environment of that Gathering and then select one. Here is a map of the College that shows where each Gathering is located and a breakdown that introduces you to the flavour of that Gathering.
First, here is what the Gatherings have in common! Each Gathering has been created to enable people to experience the love of God in an irreligious setting. We value people and believe that a Gathering exists to enable people to connect with a positive, life-changing experience in a way everyone can relate to and understand. We will not single you out for visiting – we are all new to our church as well! Each Gathering is friendly, positive and addresses practical issues that we all relate to.
Here are some tips on visiting for the first time:
- Dress casually - you don’t need to dress up for KCC
- Bring a mug (we have coffee and goodies but also want to save the environment)
- Try to engage in conversation with a couple of people and find out about KCC through them.
- Introduce yourself to the Gathering pastor
- Fill in a response card if you desire to be put on our email list to receive updates (you can download a copy of “In the Loop” here.)
Tree House Gathering
From its inception KCC has valued our younger attendees and provided a fun, practical program for growing and inspiring kids. Located in the upper 500 level of Sir Sandford Fleming College (see Map) we offer a program for the following age groups.
- Nursery (up to 2)
- Buddies (2-4)
- 4-5’s
- 6-8’s
- 8-11’s
Jill Stephen’s and Cheryl O’Byrne are our Tree House leaders. When first visiting KCC, ask to speak to one of them and they will tour the area with you and answer any questions you have about our Children’s area. We sign our younger children in and out of their programs and have a full Plan to Protect program in place to ensure children are properly cared for in a safe, clean environment.

Redwood Gathering
The Redwood Gathering was the founding Gathering of KCC. Began in 2001 with 26 people Redwood has grown and been able to begin other Gatherings in the Peterborough area including Cedarside and Willow Grove. Using practical teaching, a fun and engaging culture and everyday examples of navigating life’s challenges, the Redwood derives its culture from a passion for reaching everyday people who do not fit into a traditional church culture. If you do not have a church background or have found fitting into one difficult, Redwood is a great place to start. Messages from Redwood can be downloaded at www.currentgatherings.com

Cedarside Gathering
The Cedarside Gathering was started in 2004. Using inspiring ideas, a search for meaning and humorous approach to life’s challenges, the Cedarside Gathering has rapidly filled the 374 lecture theatre of the College. Artists, philosophers and intellectuals enjoy the engaging “up close” approach to life. Our Cedarside also has the ability to engage the cynic and those previously burned out on religion. If you have been searching for a different approach to faith, Cedarside is a great place to start.
